The short answer

On the payment screen, type a promo code and tap Apply, and to split a bill, tap Split Payment and take each share with Tender Cash Part. To add a tip, type it in the tip box or tap ten, fifteen or twenty percent, and it's recorded for the person who served the order.

0:00By the end of this video, you'll be able to take a promo code at the till, split one bill between two people paying cash, and add a tip.

Take a promo code

0:14Here's a takeaway order at Lena's. Tap Charge to go to the payment screen. Your customer has a code. Type it into the promo code box, and tap Apply. Walnut checks the code is live today, then takes the discount off. The amount due and the Charge button show the new total.

0:39Promo codes need the discount permission. Staff without it see a lock here instead. Take the cash as usual. Type what your customer hands you, and Walnut shows the change. Then tap Charge. You create promo codes in the back office, under Discounts. They're included on the free plan.

Split a bill in cash

1:08Table two want to go halves. Open their ticket from Open Tickets, and tap Charge. On the payment screen, tap Split Payment. It shows how much is left to pay. Type the first person's share, and tap Tender Cash Part. That share is recorded, and the ticket stays open for the rest.

1:37From now on, Charge takes only what's left, by any payment method. Now type what's left for the second person, and tap Tender Cash Part again. Once the whole bill is covered, the ticket is paid.

Add a tip

1:54Here's another takeaway order. Tap Charge. In the tip box, type an amount, or tap ten, fifteen or twenty percent. The tip is recorded for the person who served the order. It doesn't count as sales. The cash box now asks for the bill plus the tip, so the change comes out right.

2:23Then take payment as usual. To email a receipt or give a refund, watch the receipts and refunds video. Card payments need Stripe connected first, in Settings, under Card Payments.

Recap

2:42To recap. On the payment screen, type a promo code and tap Apply. To split a bill, tap Split Payment, and take each share with Tender Cash Part. And to add a tip, type it, or tap a percentage. Thanks for watching. In the next video, invite your team. Start free at walnutpos.com.
